OER Playlists by Subject
Our OER Metadata Collection represents the curation of tens of thousands of resources for the four core subject areas (Science, Social Studies, English Language Arts, and Mathematics), as well as many other key subject areas (World Languages, English Language Learners, Fine Arts, Health and Physical Education, Philosophy and Religion, Career and Technical Education, Current Events, Technology, and 21st Century Skills).

OER Playlists by Academic Standard
In conversations across a broad spectrum of K-12 Districts and organizations that serve them, Knovation noticed teachers struggling to find quality, aligned resources for instruction. No longer will teachers sort and sift through an oversupply of content, curated or not. They are looking for very small, specifically curated collections of the best resources to address an academic standard. In response, Knovation's seasoned teacher curation specialists targeted the best resources aligned to Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for Math and English Language Arts, and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The result of this work is Knovation’s highly curated “Teacher Recommended” Playlists, tightly correlated for CCSS and NGSS.
What does “Teacher Recommended” resources mean?
Teacher Recommended resources are first evaluated using Knovation’s quality rubric to assure relevance, appropriateness, and value of the resources. Then, Knovation teacher curators review and hand select resources they know work in their classrooms and feel confident would work in other teachers’ classrooms that specifically align to the respective academic standard.
What else did Knovation’s teacher curators consider when recommending resources?
In curating this Collection, Knovation teacher curators considered different learning styles and the reasons why teachers use digital content. These teacher curators have done everything in their power to locate, evaluate, and align reliable content that is freely available and meets expectations of quality.
What can a teacher accessing resources in the Teacher Recommended Collections expect?
Teachers can expect the Teacher Recommended Collection to meet certain scale requirements – 6-10 digital resources per education standard. As well, resources in the Teacher Recommended Collection represent:
- A broad range of digital content publishers
- Diversity of learning resource types (video, audio, interactive media, etc.)
- Resources both for practice and instruction
- Resources that appropriately span complexity/readability ranges
Additionally, Knovation uses advanced technology to continuously monitor and maintain Teacher Recommended Collections resources giving teachers comfort that resources are available and appropriate at the point of instruction.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many resources are represented in the Knovation OER Metadata Collection?
Since 1999, we have invested in the cultivation of our OER Metadata Collection – managing the content life cycle, contextualization, appropriateness, cognitive level and instructional quality of each learning resource. Today, there are 360,000+ K-12 learning resources maintained in our Collection.
How many publishers are represented in the OER Metadata Collection?
Does the Knovation OER Metadata Collection include learning resources for all subject areas?
Yes, our OER Metadata Collection represents the curation of tens of thousands of resources for the four core subject areas (Science, Social Studies, English Language Arts, and Mathematics), as well as many other key subject areas (World Languages, English Language Learners, Fine Arts, Health and Physical Education, Philosophy and Religion, Career and Technical Education, Current Events, Technology, and 21st Century Skills).
Are the learning resources included in the OER Metadata Collection aligned with academic standards?
One of the primary goals for our OER Metadata Collection is to provide complete coverage of the State and Common Core State Standards and taxonomies across core and related subject areas. We regularly analyze State and Common Core State Standards and our subject area taxonomies to identify any existing gaps; then we take steps to fill those gaps by curating quality OER and free web content.
How frequently is the OER Metadata Collection updated?
We update our OER Metadata Collection on a continuous basis. Thousands of new learning resources are added each quarter after certification by our teacher curators. Additionally, all learning resources in our Collection are reviewed daily for availability and appropriateness.
Are the learning resources in the OER Metadata Collection analyzed and tagged for Lexile measures?
Which learning resource types are included in the OER Metadata Collection?
Our teacher curators focus on providing a wide variety of learning resource types in the OER Metadata Collection. Resource types include: activities, articles, assessments, audio, eBooks, interactive media, learning games, learning modules, lesson plans, primary source documents, reference materials, student centered materials, test preparation materials, videos, visual materials, websites, whiteboard resources, apps, professional learning resources, and 3-D printing plans. To highlight new additions, we publish a quarterly report, “What Have We Done for You Lately?” that showcases the characteristics of newly curated learning resources.
Does the Knovation OER Metadata Collection include lesson plans and full courses?
Does Knovation have the rights to the learning resources represented in the OER Metadata Collection?
We do not have ownership rights to the learning resources in the OER Metadata Collection. We curate and contextualize content that is freely available on the web – all rights to the content itself remain with its publisher and/or author. We do own and have rights to the metadata generated by our teacher curators to contextualize learning resources for use in K-12 educational settings.
What are the benefits of Knovation's OER Content Integration Services?
